My Story

Tim Rooney has been bringing his unique energy and musicianship to stages for over 30 years, ever since picking up a guitar and singing in bands as a middle schooler. His influences are as diverse as his playing style, drawing from the deep grooves of Motown, the mind-expanding sounds of '60s psychedelia, the raw funk of P-Funk, the infectious rhythms of reggae and ska, and the melodic charm of '60s Merseybeat.

Blending the tight, in-the-pocket rhythm playing of Keith Richards with the unhinged energy and fiery soloing of Jimi Hendrix, Tim approaches every performance with passion and a deep respect for the song. In addition, he is not only a gifted guitarist, but also a great singer with a wide vocal range and an exceptional ability to harmonize with others. Whether locking in with a band or captivating an audience solo, he thrives on the magic of live music.

His musical journey has taken him through an eclectic range of projects, from leading SKAVOCADO, a nine-piece ska band, to laying down grooves in a polka-rock ensemble, The Big Sky Polka Kings, to playing neo-soul acoustic Americana with 76. In addition, Tim has also written and recorded with WET HEAVY, an ongoing project he created with a childhood friend and multi-instrumentalist, where all instruments are shared between the duo. Tim also  performs as a solo singer-songwriter, and has strummed and sung his way across three continents, busking in the streets of western Europe, to beach towns of Central America and Mexico, to bars, breweries, and stages around his home of Bozeman, Montana. No matter the setting, Tim’s dedication to the art of performance and connection through music remains at the heart of everything he does.

Tim has loved WEEN since he first heard them in 1990, and has been lucky to see them around 20 times, from their home stage at John and Peter’s in New Hope and a Roller Rink in Doylestown, PA, to big clubs in Philly and NYC, to amphitheater shows in Seattle, San Francisco, and Missoula, MT.
