Rock | R&B | Soul | Funk
Mike Koziel, known to many as "Koz," is a versatile and seasoned musician with over 35 years in the Soul, R&B, Blues, and Funk scenes. His journey began on an out-of-tune piano that gave everything he played a bluesy feel—igniting a lifelong passion for music.
From musical directing for a college theater department to touring the country, Mike has graced countless stages, from dive bars to festivals, cruise ships, and theme parks. Along the way, he’s backed legendary Motown acts like The Four Seasons, The Platters, and The Marvelettes. His dedication to groove and improvisation has made him a staple in the funk and soul community.
Ten years ago, Mike moved to Bozeman, Montana, where he quickly became an integral part of the local music scene. In addition to collaborating with local bands, he has continued to showcase his signature style—an eclectic blend of Bruce Hornsby, Stevie Wonder, Oscar Peterson, and Billy Payne of Little Feat.
Mike has also started and participated in numerous tribute bands, celebrating artists such as James Brown, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Dream Theater, and Tom Petty. Currently, he’s the keyboardist for Paige and the Peoples Band and a proud member of the Ween tribute band Object. He is frequently invited to sit in with various other projects, thanks to his reputation as a consummate collaborator.
A career highlight includes working with Grammy-winning artist Solomon Burke, the “Godfather of Rock & Soul,” a testament to his talent and versatility. Whether leading a soulful jam, delivering tight funk improvisation, or unleashing blistering solos, Mike Koziel brings energy, precision, and heart to every performance.
